Adios Elementor! Why I Switched to Bricks.

I’ve used GeneratePress + Elementor to build websites for years.

GeneratePress has always been excellent, but I finally hit the wall with Elementor:

  • Increasingly bloated and slow
  • Changes often didn’t update on the front end (super frustrating)
  • Fighting the editor to make simple text changes
  • Mystery injection of oddball CSS when pasting
  • Inconsistent support
  • Responsive design headaches
  • Inaccurate previews

Next up: GenerateBlocks. Better, but I could never get happy with the Gutenberg / blocks experience. Too clunky, unintuitive, and limited.

Bricks Builder

Then I discovered Bricks. It’s different and superior. Bricks offers a cohesive experience, eliminating conflicts between themes and page builders, and providing both speed and flexibility.

  • Real-time preview in the same window
  • No 3rd-party theme required (Bricks IS the theme and the builder)
  • Unified editor for every part of the site (header, footer, nav, posts, etc)
  • Significant built-in optimization
  • Lightweight and fast
  • Reduced need for plugins
  • Beautiful UI
  • Uses the Flexbox model (easier to align and distribute elements)
  • Powerful reusable components
  • True global styling

Extending Bricks

You can use Bricks out of the box, but if you need more functionality or templates, a robust community has developed around it, including these solutions:

Frames + ACSSĀ  (both from Digital Gravy)

  • Automatic CSS framework saves a lot of time
  • Large library of drag and drop, high-conversion components and layouts (Frames)
  • “Unopinionated” approach means you don’t have to undo other’s designs
